The Flemish painter, who was born in Leuven in 1535, is primarily known for his landscapes and market scenes.
The depiction of large public festivals, such as the St. George's Day fair, has a firm position in Flemish painting. Although Valckenborch was inspired by traditional fairground depictions, he interpreted them in a new way.
